Our July vacation in Croatia, Opatija: Hotel Miramar

After staying at hotel near Porec we were taken bus to our next destination Opatija.

This is a very famous Mediterranean resort, so beloved in former times by aristocrats and other respected guests.

Due to this, Opatija has a lot of beautiful villas and buildings, as well as a multi-kilometer promenade (12 km) along the sea to the neighboring villages (created by Kaiser Franz-Josef).

I have wanted to get to Opatija so much and specifically to stay at the Miramar hotel 4 star superior. But, as it turned out, it was very difficult to book rooms there, because hotel guests return there year after year and book their vacation very much in advance. This time I’ve managed to book a room there on time, and so we got there to our great pleasure.

Hotel Miramar is a few buildings like Mediterranean villas, which stand in a small area.

The reception is located in the main building at the entrance to the hotel. In the remaining buildings are rooms for guests.

The cheapest rooms are situated in the villas without a view, the most expensive in the villa Neptune overlooking the sea. Although, to be honest, I liked this villa less, because it has a terrace with a restaurant and bar. But the views there are yes, so wonderful.

We’ve got a room in a green villa on the 2nd floor. It was a superior landside room (not the cheapest room, since the cheap ones are at ground level, almost like in the basement, and in size are very small 15 m2). Our room was a good size, about 30m2. It had a sleeping area, a bathroom with a bidet, a bathroom (covered with wooden shutters from the bedroom), a washbasin and a toilet, a nice balcony with chairs and a table. It was clean, nice and very comfortable. All the necessary accessories were in it. Our main claim to the room was only for the beds.

The hotel’s territory is small but pleasantly decorated that has an indoor and outdoor sea-water pool, a spa area with different types of saunas, a sunbathing area by the pool, sunbeds under pine trees overlooking the sea and a separate concreted area with sun beds and umbrellas by the sea.

The only drawback in this hotel for me was the sea: it was dark in color and more like a lake for some reason. For swimming, a small water area was fenced off, which was also not so liked by us. At the same time, the sea water was clean and warm.

Another problem is to find a sunbed every morning. It seemed that they were few for the number of hotel guests, despite the fact that the hotel was almost 100% occupied.

A big plus in this hotel is the service and food! There are very strong 5 stars in all aspects.
The hotel has a HB system (breakfast and dinner).

Breakfast is served on the principle of a buffet with a choice of all dishes and ordering the drinks you want. Everything is tasty and fresh. Coffee and cocoa are very well cooked. And the view is great too!

Dinner is à la carte, while snacks and salads can be enjoyed at the buffet. You can order soup, main course and dessert from the menu. And here begins the magic of this hotel 🙂

Very beautiful terrace overlooking the sea, live music, fully served tables on the terrace of the villa and a pleasant expectation of very tasty cuisine. Cooking and serving dishes at a very good level of a good restaurant, obviously not with a massive approach as in many other hotels. Everything was very tasty and very beautiful!

Definitely recommend this hotel as a place for a pleasant, relaxing holiday with excellent service and cuisine. I will remember this hotel more than any other hotel we visited in Croatia, and I would definitely go back there.

We’ve really liked Opatija for a long wonderful walks along the sea and for endless viewing and photographing of all its villas and interesting buildings.

It was a wonderful to get know new regions of Croatia!
