This year, the hotel’s occupancy rate was much higher than last year’s, and we felt it in full in the hotel’s restaurants. Breakfasts were served in the main restaurant, which, however, often had no seats when we went there. But here the management worked great, opening an Italian restaurant for breakfast (where we liked more to have breakfast).
Now breakfasts look different than last year: there is a buffet where you can choose fruits, vegetables, snacks, pastries, cheeses / meats, and there is also the possibility of ordering main dishes from the menu.
The service is good, everything is delicious and fresh. Only the main breakfast restaurant is very cramped and lacks the atmosphere for a leisurely meal. The hotel should consider expanding of this restaurant, also considering that the occupancy rate during our stay was not very high.
But it turned out that the biggest problem was that the à la carte restaurants that were open for dinner could not cope with the number of guests who wanted to visit them. And we even witnessed a scene where guests who had just arrived at the hotel could not have dinner at the hotel, and the hotel staff sent them to have dinner somewhere in the city 🙁 I think the hotel urgently needs to open additional restaurants for dinner or expand existing ones so that everyone guests could dine at the hotel if they desire so.
We had an Italian a la carte and grill restaurant by the sea. Overall, we enjoyed having dinner there, but the changes we saw were very bad.
Half board or full board guests can choose from 1 appetizer dish (salad, appetizer or soup), 1 main course and 1 dessert. It was also possible to order a drink and beer / wine.
But now the most interesting (and expensive) dishes are marked in the menu, which means an additional payment for them. And if you, like us, love a good steak or lamb, then you will have to pay extra 17 euros by ordering them. This is how the menu of an Italian restaurant looks now, where beef tenderloin and lamb saddle are special dishes with a surcharge.
I think this is an unacceptable and very sad innovation, which upset us a lot. And I very much ask and recommend to the hotel management to urgently revise the menu, to immediately add these dishes into rate of half board / full board, so as not to embarrass the guests.
Still, this hotel should be chosen for those who appreciate delicious food. Nice presentation, very interesting desserts, everything is worth trying 🙂
Only this year the steaks were unsuccessful, so we informed the staff of the grill restaurant about this. In response, we received a joking comment that this is because we ordered a medium rare steak, and such meat is always difficult to chew 🙂 It would be funny if it were not so sad 🙂 It seems to me that the hotel management should conduct additional training for the hotel staff, because such jokes seem not only inappropriate, but also offensive.
And here we should thank Mr. Emad (the head of the hotel restaurants), who heard about our displeasure, introduced us to a very interesting hotel chef. He told us that we understood everything correctly, the steaks in October were not what we ate last year, because supplies of the right steaks were disrupted, and the hotel is expecting them in the near future 🙂 This is how the secret of steaks was solved, but this did not spoil our mood and impressions of the hotel’s kitchen.
This time we took half board, because last year we didn’t have time to get hungry after wonderful lunches by the pool 🙂 But, to be honest, I really missed my favorite watermelon gazpacho and ice cream for lunch 🙂
We will gladly return to the hotel and recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant and tasty holiday in Sharm El Sheikh.
