How to find flights and tickets on island Tenerife, Spain

So it’s time to tell you about our holiday trip to island Tenerife, Spain in May 2019.

I’ve chosen island Tenerife a long time ago, but my wish list of vacation destinations was to long 🙂 If with hotels on the island there everything was clear to me: there are so many of them for every taste and budget, so with the flight everything was not so clear.

From Ukraine to Tenerife in May was available only one direct flight with SkyUp airline that do not give me any confidence (constant delays, postponements, etc.). From the end of May, a direct charter from UIA will be added, which did not suit me on dates.

That’s why I’ve started to search through possible options for a trip to the island with a few flights. I must say, this time it was a very difficult task, it took a lot of time and nerves, but I was satisfied with the result, as was the final price of tickets.

First, I’ve written out a list of cities where two of our favorite low-cost airlines WizzAir and Ryanair fly from Kyiv. Then I found out cities and flights of all possible airlines that fly from these cities to Tenerife.

I always do it by hand notes, because I like this more than to use PC 🙂

The main task for me was arriving on the island as early as possible (in the morning or in the afternoon), and not in the evening or night, as many flights suggested. At the same time, I was ready to spend the night somewhere on the way to arrive earlier.

As a result of a long search, I’ve chosen the Kyiv-Frankfurt flight option with WizzAir, then Frankfurt-Valencia and Valencia-Tenerife South with Ryanair. This option suggested spending the night in Valencia (I was very happy to stay at Valencia, because I’ve wanted to see this city for a long time) as well as arriving on the island on afternoon, as I wanted. But it didn’t work out exactly as planned, I will tell you about this later.

I’ve immediately realized that on the way back we didn’t want spending the night on the way, because it is usually very exhausting, and all you want is to get home faster. That’s why I needed an option with 2 flights maximum.

The main condition for finding return tickets was departure from the island at least after breakfast, and not in the early morning. I was searching again by a similar method: first I’ve checked out all the flights of airlines that take off from Tenerife South Airport. Then I found out flights from these cities to Kyiv. Then I found the necessary puzzle, though a bit unexpected 🙂

As a result, the return tickets were these: Tenerife South-Düsseldorf with Ryanair and Cologne-Kyiv with WizzAir. It was nothing complicated, because there is a direct train between Düsseldorf Airport and Cologne Airport, and the journey lasts only 1 hour and 15 minutes 🙂

How I was hunting for good price for these tickets please read in one of my next posts 🙂
