Our magic Istanbul holiday: hotel Yasmak Sultan

We love to celebrate New Year not at home, so I try to organize an interesting trip for us every time on the New Year holidays.

This time for the celebration of NY 2013, I’ve decided to choose Istanbul. I was always attracted to this city, there is something so secret and magical, interesting and unexplored in it. After watching the Turkish series “The Magnificent Age”, I’ve decided that this was a sign and it was a time for us to see all this beauty 🙂

Choosing a hotel in Istanbul is a separate adventure. There are a lot of hotels there: for every taste and budget, with any set of services and location. When I saw such a number of hotels, I felt bad, how could I choose hotel for us 🙂

Later I’ve realized that I had to start from the main point for us – from the location of the hotel.

Since we were going to walk and ride around the city a lot, we’ve needed a convenient point to start and finish our daily walks around, as well as a place close to the main sights, so that at least they could be reached quickly and be possible to be back to the hotel quickly if we tired much 🙂

In the end, I’ve chosen the hotel Yasmak Sultan 4 *

The hotel is conveniently located on a street in 2 minutes from the Gulhane tram stop (tram is our favorite transport to travel around Istanbul, including from and to the airport).

Yes, I’ve booked the ONE hotel for all 7 nights, because at that time I was not yet in the taste of exploring a large number of hotels in one trip 🙂

The hotel is located a 5-minute walk from the Top Capi Palace and Gulhane Park, 10 minutes from the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque and the Galata Bridge.

The first night we’ve stayed in a twin room with 2 separate beds and a bathroom killed in the trash.

The next day, at our request, we were moved to a double room with one double bed.

Hotel advantages:
– great location
– lovely breakfast terrace overlooking Istanbul
– cozy warm room
– good breakfast
– good service
– a good SPA (there is a sauna, hammam, swimming pool and gym)

Cons of the hotel:
– small rooms of standard category
– small double bed
noise from the window from the street
little room in the restaurant for breakfast

In general, the hotel is not bad, but I will not recommend it. It remains such a strange impression that it could be better, although there are no strong complaints. Perhaps this is just not quite our hotel and today I would choose another.

I definitely recommend to visit Istanbul. I can talk about it endlessly, and explore it even longer :). In the first week of January, we were greeted by a very great weather – sunny and warm + 10-15C.

So come and see this magic by yourself!
